As pomp and circumstance fills the air, there is a wave of innovative, fun, and creative shorts that are making their rounds as a direct result of student portfolio development and senior thesis work.

For this particularly sunny Focal Friday, we were inspired by the creative approach in Slimtime, a 2010 graduation film by four students at Supinfocom Arles.  The  short is very much infused with a Stepford Wives vibe that resonates with delightful colors and vibrant characters that are a nod to Jacques Tati.  I, for one, look forward to the new wave of animation creativity if these shorts are any indication of the great talent, technique, and artistry that will be entering the animation industry.

Happy Friday!

This week, Olly Newport brings you a delightful, stop-motion short entitled “The Secret Life of Pocket Change.” British coins really get around…
