Superbowl XLVI is this Sunday, so its only fitting that this week’s animation inspiration bring what is being touted as one of the greatest rematches in sport’s history – New York Giants vs. New England Patriots. However, Janvier Arnaud takes an interesting spin on this heated rivalry. Super Twins – created in Arnaud’s 3rd year at Supinfocom Arles – gridlocks a pair of twin sisters in a no-holds-bar battle for NFL supremacy. The French animation created Super Twins with 3ds Max, Photoshop, and After Effects, collaborating with sound designer David Nicoletti and music producer Michael Fiorentini in 2009.
The animation community first took notice of the commendable effort from the first-time director/producer/script-writer in 2010. 3D Artist chatted with Javier Arnaud on the importance of the iterative process in creating Super Twins. “The process involved proposing dozens of scenarios to the teachers…if they think something isn’t working they will get the students to start all over from the beginning. At the same time, students are learning new software and scripting – so it’s quite the balancing act.” Seems like Javier is ready for the tight rope!
If you aren’t aware – Focal Press HQ is deep in Patriots country. Despite the outcome of Superbowl XLII and Super Twins, I quite enjoyed this short – it captured the intense rivalry that exists between sports teams, the cities they represent, and of course – siblings. Enjoy the short and then tune in on Sunday to see the Patriots make NY cry!
